NATCHEZ — An inmate has died in the Adams County Jail, Sheriff Travis said in a press release issued Tuesday morning.
Patten said George Thompson, 59, was found deceased by jail staff at approximately 6:30 a.m.
Jail staff called E-911, Patten said. When AMR ambulance paramedics arrived, they advised Thompson was deceased.
Thompson was arrested for disorderly conduct and breach of peace and was being held awaiting a committal hearing, Patten said.
“On the night of 12/23/24, Mr. Thompson was housed in a single-man cell, and jail staff checked on him constantly throughout the night. Mr. Thompson did not make any requests for medical attention throughout the night and, unfortunately, passed away from unknown circumstances,” according to Patten’s press release.
“Prior to today, Mr. Thompson had been housed in the facility for another incident but was released for medical reasons on 11/23/2024. Mr. Thompson’s next of kin was notified and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations was called for them to independently investigate this incident prior to the coroner being called. Our hearts and prayers certainly go out to the family for the loss of their loved one,” Patten said.
