Vidalia — The Concordia Parish Police Jury will consider hiring a part-time building permit inspector.
Jury member Willie Dunbar said in his inspections of the parish he regularly sees non-permitted construction.
While Concordia Parish is contracted with Rapides Area Planning Commission for building inspections in the area, Dunbar wants someone located in the parish that will work to make sure new construction and building additions are permitted.
“We have to do something” Dunbar said. “This has got to come to a stop.”
Jurymember Randy Temple said the parish only has $18,000 in its budget for building inspections, which would not cover a certified inspector.
At their next meeting the jury will discuss hiring someone that will only seek to certify that buildings, and additions, are being built with permits.
In other news, the jury voted to increase the calling capacity of their yet-to-be-purchased CodeRed Weather Warning system.
Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Deputy Capt. Frankie Carroll said the new upgrade will be able to call an unlimited number of Concordia Parish residents in the event of an emergency.
Additionally Carroll said the sheriff’s office is also exploring a way to connect all Concordia Parish land lines tied in with the 911 system to be automatically registered with the system.
Currently residents must sign up to receive the service which calls them in the event of dangerous weather.
