The Natchez Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees took the first steps in hiring an out-of-town radiology team to work at the facility Wednesday.
Hospital Attorney Walter Brown said the board voted to conduct a hearing in 60 days that will give any parties that object to the plan an opportunity to have their voices heard.
“It’s standard process,” Brown said.
While hospital administrators believe the new radiologist will improve radiological services at the facility at, two local radiologists are concerned.
Dr. Ray Brown, a radiologist at Radiology Associates of Natchez, said he and his partner are concerned the new contract will drive business away from Natchez.
Brown estimated one third of his business comes from NRMC.
Brown said he and other medical professionals in the area will be at the July hearing to voice their objections.
