RIDGELAND — Adams County Christian School’s varsity boys’ soccer team hit the road to take on MAIS newcomer St. Augustine School last Friday afternoon and the Rebels lost to the Gryphons 4-0 to remain winless this season.

And had it not been for the incredible play of ACCS freshman goalkeeper Bryce LaPrairie, the final score could have been a whole lot more one-sided in St. Augustine’s favor. As head coach Kristofer Thompson noted, LaPrairie had between 11 and 13 saves.

“They (St. Augustine) had a lot of shots. It was a whole lot of offense played. They definitely have a lot of experience playing together,” Thompson said. They have a lot of club players. Some of my kids know them from playing against them in club tournaments.”

Thompson added that it was very important for ACCS to take on an opponent such as St. Augustine before MAIS Division II South play begins next week.

“Getting to know what we can do on the ball and what we can do off the ball,” Thompson said. “We have one more non-district game left.”

ACCS (0-4) doesn’t play again until Monday, Dec. 2 when the Rebels travel to Hattiesburg to take on the Hattiesburg 4Runners.

Brookhaven Academy 2, ACCS 1 (Thursday afternoon)

BROOKHAVEN — Parker Donaldson scored a goal for ACCS in the first half for an early lead, but the Rebels could not make that lead stand in the second half as they lost a heartbreaker to the Brookhaven Academy Cougars 2-1 last Thursday afternoon.

Donaldson’s goal came at the 10th minute of the first half to give ACCS a 1-0 lead. Brookhaven Academy tied the game up at 1-1 in the second half and scored the go-ahead goal with time running out.

“It was a nice tap-in to the back of the net. We led 1-0 at halftime and ended up conceding two goals, the last one in the last minute. We made too many individual mistakes that cost us two own goals, and we would’ve been up 3-0 or 4-0,” Rebels head coach Kristofer Thompson said. “It was a good experience for the boys playing top-tiered players that are used to getting club reps.”

Thompson said that in boys’ soccer, ACCS and Brookhaven Academy are not in MAIS Division II South, so this was a non-division game. The Rebels’ opponents in Division II South are Cathedral High School, Parklane Academy, and Oak Forest Academy.

Despite the loss, Thompson said that all 11 players played much better than they did in the beginning of the season, especially the midfield. Freshman goalkeeper Bryce LaPrairie had least nine save, Thompson noted.

“Midfielders Aiden Roche’, Christian Neveykin, and Drake Hal played a much better possession game. They did a good job controlling the ball and not turning it over so quickly,” Thompson said. “Offensively, all three forwards, Caleb Daugherty, Jamichael Owens, and Parker Donaldson, all three of them worked well together to create more opportunities for us.”
