NATCHEZ — More than $6,000 in federal aid has already been approved for flood recovery in Adams County.
The money is a part of FEMA’s individuals and households program.
Many forms of federal assistance are available, but people must first register by dialing 800-621-FEMA (3362) seven days a week between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. An application can also be made on FEMA’s website, www.disasterassistance.gov at any time. A person can also track the status of an application on that site.
In Wilkinson County, $15,242 in FEMA funding has been approved. Residents in the flooded Fort Adams area of Wilkinson County were allowed to visit their houses and properties for the first time this morning. The Mississippi Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is supervising the visits until nightfall tonight and all day Saturday.
Residents are not yet allowed to move back in.
The river stands at 60.12 feet now.
New data available from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers shows that the river’s highest point was 61.95 feet at 9 p.m. May 18.
