NATCHEZ — Close to 1,000 graduates will be in the Miss-Lou this weekend.
The Sadie V. Thompson Era Reunion will be today through Sunday, and the Vidalia High School classes from the beginning to 1969 will be Friday through Sunday.
The Thompson High School reunion will be at the Natchez Convention Center, and the former schoolmates will start off by getting acquainted.
“The era reunion represents our love and dedication to the Sadie V. Thompson High School,” reunion organizer Eva Dunkley said. “The group represents 46 states.”
On Friday, the class will have a motorcade from the Thompson School, which is on the corner of Union Street and West Stiers Lane, to the Natchez Convention Center at 3 p.m. Once at the convention center, the classmates will have a picnic and talent show.
From 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, the Thompson classmates will have a banquet, followed by a dance. Former Thompson teacher W.A. Butts will be the speaker.
Dunkley said she expects more than 500 people, and they will be reserving rooms at multiple area hotels.
In Vidalia, organizer Guylyn Boles said the reunion was partially organized on Facebook.
“That is how a lot of people found out — by everyone being on Facebook,” Boles said. “We started organizing over a year ago.”
On Friday night, several classes will have a get together at Comfort Suites on the Riverfront.
Boles said on Saturday the doors open at 9 a.m. at the Vidalia Convention Center and activities will include getting together, lunch and dancing.
Boles expects approximately 400 people to come in this weekend.
