NATCHEZ — The largest voting precinct in Adams County by the number of voters, Crosspoint Church, lost power during the election along with around 1150 electric meters in Adams County.
A widespread power outage was reported by Entergy around 1:30 p.m. today with an estimated restoration time of 3 p.m.
However, Election Commissioner Tracy Gaude said the ballot counter has backup power and will still count votes.
“For how long I don’t know,” Gaude said. “We’ve contacted the Adams County Emergency Management Director Robert Bradford and he is bringing a generator up there and I believe the pastor at Crosspoint is bringing up some lights and equipment.”
Besides, Gaude said there haven’t been other hiccups reported by precincts thus far.
“The phone is ringing off the hook because that is our biggest one,” she said of Crosspoint. “We can still scan paper ballots and the machine has an emergency shoot if we need to use it.”
