FERRIDAY, La. — The Delta Charter School Storm will look to remain undefeated in LHSAA District 2-1A when they play host to the Block High School Bears for Senior Night at Delta Charter this Friday night.
Kickoff between Block (1-7, 0-3) and Delta Charter (6-1, 3-0) is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Bears are looking to not only bounce back from a tough 32-24 loss at home to Delhi High School last Saturday night, but they will also be seeking to avenge last year’s 60-6 loss to Delta Charter.
The Storm rallied to upset General Trass High School 84-82 in triple overtime at home last Friday night. Delta Charter head coach Blake Wheeler said 11 senior players and one senior manager will be recognized prior to kickoff.
Wheeler said his team is pretty healthy heading into this district and rivalry game between the Bears and the Storm.
“We’re fairly healthy. We have one guy who is banged up, but everyone else is good,” Wheeler said.
Wheeler said the Storm is mainly working on two things this week in preparing for the Bears — fundamentals and containing Block senior quarterback Kristian O’Steen. And that is one of the things about the Bears that concern Wheeler the most.
“Their quarterback. He’s really good. Defensively, they’ve got some pretty good defensive ends and linebackers,” Wheeler noted.
Wheeler said the Bears runs a spread offense and are multiple on defense. He then said that the Storm’s defense needs to step up in a big way this Friday night.
“We have a lot of seniors who play defense. We need for them to rebound from last week. Our linebackers, Braden Fairbanks. Harlem Gilmore, and Jeremiah Nelson,” Wheeler said. Even though Gilmore, a junior, is listed as a free safety, he has played some at linebacker this season.
