The National Hurricane Center’s 1 pm Saturday advisory reported that Nadine is now affecting Belize. Tropical Storm Nadine is 20 miles west-northwest of Belize City and 65 miles south-southwest of Chetumal Mexico, with maximum sustained wind of 50 mph. It’s moving at 8 mph to the west.

“… Nadine is expected to move across Belize, northern Guatemala, and southern Mexico through Sunday.” meteorologists observed. “Weakening is expected, and Nadine will likely dissipate by late Sunday.”

YESTERDAY (Friday):

Yesterday (Friday) at 4 pm, the National Hurricane Center published the first advisory for a potential tropical cyclone. The system, now named Nadine, became a tropical storm with sustained winds of 50 mph after undergoing intensification from a potential tropical cyclone. Forecasters issued a tropical storm warning for portions of Belize and the Yucatan peninsula Of Mexico.

SUMMARY OF WATCHES AND WARNINGS IN EFFECT:

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for:

– Belize City, Belize to Cancun, Mexico, including Cozumel

A Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area.

Interests elsewhere in Belize and the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico should monitor the progress of this system.

HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND:

RAINFALL: Widespread 4 to 8 inch rainfall amounts are expected with Nadine across northern Belize, northern Guatemala, and southern Mexican states from Quintana Roo westward to Veracruz. Isolated areas of amounts exceeding 12 inches are also possible through late Tuesday.

WIND: Tropical storm conditions are expected within the warning area through this afternoon.
