NATCHEZ — Both on the mound, or in the circle as some people who follow fast-pitch softball would say, and at the plate, Cathedral High School senior pitcher Lily Crum was one of the leaders of a Lady Green Wave team that went 27-7 overall.

After leading Cathedral to a second-place finish in MAIS District 4-5A and deep runs in both the MAIS Class 5A South State Tournament and the Class 5A State Tournament, Crum achieved two individual accomplishments recently.

Crum was named the District 4-5A All-District Player of the Year and last Thursday was named to the MAIS Class 4A-5A-6A All-Star Fast-Pitch White Team that took on the Blue Team at that All-Star Game at Jackson Preparatory School in Flowood Wednesday afternoon.

Even though Copiah Academy won yet another District 4-5A championship this year, Cathedral head coach Craig Beesley said he was not surprised that Crum was named All-District Player of the Year.

“She had a great year. She led the MAIS in strikeouts with 248. She had several no-hitters and a perfect game during our district competition,” Beesley said.

As for what Crum’s reaction was when she found out about achieving each of these individual accolades, Beesley said, “She was excited. Her teammates were excited for her. They were a close-knit group this year. They were excited that Lily was named to the All-Star Team and District 4-5A MVP.”

Along with here 248 strikeouts and just 61 walks in 248 total innings pitched this season, Crum had an impressive 18-6 record on the mound. She also had a .344 batting average with two home runs, 10 doubles, and 18 runs batted in.

After she graduates from Cathedral next May, Crum will continue her softball career at Copiah-Lincoln Community College and, as Beesley pointed out, she will be a pitcher for the Lady Wolves.
