Emma Jean was born on Aug. 31, 1934, in Sicily Island, LA, and passed from this life at home on Friday, Oct. 11, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was a lifelong member of Pine Hill Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She worked as a beautician for twenty-five years, a branch manager at the Sicily Island Public Library for eighteen years, and a teacher at Head Start for three years. She was active in her church and the community where she served as treasurer for the Sicily Island Lions Club and was a member of the Sicily Island Women’s Club. In 2018, she was honored to serve as Grand Marshall for the town Christmas Parade, and she won 2nd place for her float.  As an avid LSU sports fan, she attended athletic events with her travel companion and dear friend, J. C. “Sonny” Gilbert. There are many words that can describe our Mama and Mamaw. Beautiful, kind, funny, loving, sassy, but above all, Godly. She was always ready to meet you with a smile, a funny story, and a hug and kiss. Our lives are forever changed by her passing, but our lives are better for having her, knowing her, and loving her. We thank her for loving us and always being our biggest fan, supporter, and friend.
