MCCOMB — If Adams County Christian School is going to stay in the race for the MAIS District 3-5A championship, the Rebels have to defeat the defending district champion Parklane Academy Pioneers on the road in McComb this Friday night.

Kickoff between ACCS (5-2, 2-1) and Parklane Academy (5-2, 2-0) is set for 7 p.m. The Rebels lost at home to Silliman Institute 41-35 while the Pioneers won at Cathedral High School 35-6. ACCS will also be seeking to avenge last year’s 28-26 loss at home to Parklane.

Rebels assistant coach Matthew Freeman did want to talk about what they are working on in practice this week because, as he put it, he did want the other team to know. He added that when head coach David King and his coaching staff saw the Pioneers on film, there is indeed plenty to be concerned about.

“They’re a really, really good team. They’re well-coached. They run the ball well and they throw the ball well. They’re good in all parts of the game. They run multiple defense. Very athletic, very fast. They run a 3-front, a 4-front,” Freeman said. “They run a spread offense.”

Parklane Academy is led by head coach Ron Rushing – someone who King and his staff know very well about from his head coaching stint at Cathedral High School about a decade ago. Now Rushing is looking to lead this year’s Pioneers to another district crown. On the other side of the field will be a Rebels team looking to make sure that a win for them will make it harder for that to happen.

Freeman said that ACCS will have to make some improvements after last week’s loss to Silliman for the Rebels to back on track.

“We’ve got to make more plays on defense and we can’t have any drops. We had more dropped passes last week than we had all season,” Freeman said.

As for who needs to step up for the Rebels to get a big road district win Friday night, Freeman said, “Our defensive backs. Cam Woodard, Ja’Coby Gaines, Parker Road, Colton Rabb. Chris Sewell. We’ll need them to step up.”
