The National Hurricane Center’s 4 pm Friday advisory reported that Isaac has become a Category 1 hurricane with sustained winds of 85 mph after intensifying from a tropical storm. Category 1 Hurricane Isaac is 995 miles west of the Azores, with maximum sustained wind of 85 mph. It’s moving 16 mph to the east.
“A gradual turn to the east-northeast is expected with a slight decrease in forward speed over the next day or so.” forecasters wrote. “Some slight additional strengthening is expected tonight or Saturday morning followed by gradual weakening through early next week.” They also said “Isaac is expected to be a post-tropical cyclone on Monday.”
The tropical storm Isaac had upgraded to a Category 1 hurricane with winds of 85 mph.
HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND:
SURF: Swells generated by Isaac and a large wind fetch from a deep-layer trough could spread into the Azores by this weekend. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
