NATCHEZ — Adams County Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of two individuals involved in a shooting incident this afternoon on Myrtle Drive.

Emanual Jones, 24, was reportedly shooting at Jeromy Stewart over a dispute that happened earlier today, Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said.

Others who were there had been brought to the sheriff’s office for questioning, however, Jones is the only one being charged at this time, Patten said.

“So far, everyone was cooperative except for one,” Patten said, adding there is a possibility that additional arrests and charges are forthcoming pending further investigation of this case.

“The shooter is in custody and we have recovered the weapon used in this incident,” Patten said. “Three people came back to the residence, but there was only one shooter who fired multiple rounds.”

Around 12:02 today, Adams County E911 Dispatch received a call stating that Jones was shooting at Stewart on Myrtle Drive in Adams County. Upon deputies’ arrival on the scene, Jones had already fled.

Deputies were able to make contact with the victim, Stewart, who was visibly shaken after being shot at multiple times while at his own home.

During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the Jones and Stewart had a verbal altercation over money earlier that day in front of the Jones’s home, also on Myrtle Drive.

After the verbal altercation, Stewart returned to his home. Moments later, Jones showed up at the Stewart’s house accompanied by two other persons of interest and engaged in a physical altercation with Stewart.

After the two were separated, words were continuing to be passed between them.

Eventually Jones drew his firearm from his waistline and fired multiple shots at Stewart, who was  unarmed, as he ran from the gunfire. Stewart was not struck by any bullets, but he did sustain minor injuries that happened as he was fleeing the shots.

Investigators collected evidence on the scene and later arrested Jones when Jones turned himself over to authorities at the Adams County Sheriff’s Office. He was then charged with aggravated assault and shooting into a dwelling.

Stewart was not charged relative to this case but was arrested when it was discovered that he had warrants out of Concordia Parish for burglary of a business.
