NATCHEZ — A 17-year-old juvenile who allegedly shot and killed a woman Sunday afternoon is charged as an adult following the incident.

Jamarii Zphabian White is charged with murder and attempted murder by the Natchez Police Department after he allegedly fired a single shot from what appears to be a modified 12 gauge shotgun.

Natchez Police Commander Jerry Ford said the shot struck 31-year-old Dambrelle LaShay Thomas in the area of her upper chest and arms. She was deceased when the police arrived. Bullet pellets also struck and broke the belt of an adult man who was at the home but did not injure him, Ford said.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:38 p.m. Sunday at 1108 George F. West Blvd.

Ford said a physical confrontation between White and the adult man happened moments before the shooting.

White allegedly had a weapon on his person when he first got into a physical fight with the man, then left the residence and returned with the shotgun and fired it inside the house.

Ford said an investigation of the incident and what led to the altercation is still ongoing.

White then reportedly barricaded himself inside the old Thompson school but later came out and surrendered to police after they had surrounded the building.

“Officers surrounded the school and shortly after got his father to get him to come out and turn himself in,” Ford said. “He showed officers where the weapon was that we believe to be the murder weapon.”

White has no bond pending his arraignment on Tuesday morning, Natchez Police Chief Cal Green said.

Adams County Coroner James Lee said “This is just horrible,” of the shooting. “My heart goes out to these families because it’s a no-win situation in our community. Everyone is affected by these avoidable tragedies. We should never stop praying.”
