Sunday, Sep 1 update: Latest on Tropical Storm Hone from the NHC

According to the National Hurricane Center’s 1 pm Sunday advisory, Tropical Storm Hone is 210 miles south-southwest of Midway Island and 1320 miles west-northwest of Honolulu Hawaii, with maximum sustained wind of 40 mph. It’s moving 14 mph to the west-northwest.

“A turn toward the north and an increase in forward speed is expected to resume on Monday.” forecasters explained. “On the forecast track, Hone, or the extratropical low associated with Hone, will be passing near or just west of Kure Atoll near the International Date Line late Monday or Monday night.” They also said “Little change in strength is forecast during the next 48 hours.”

YESTERDAY (Saturday):

Yesterday, Hone became a tropical storm with sustained winds of 40 mph after intensifying from a tropical depression.

HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND:

WIND: Tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area Monday and Monday night.

RAINFALL: Storm total rainfall of 2 to 4 inches is possible over Midway and Kure Atolls.
