MCCOMB — KG Fisher had three base hits and scored two runs while Lily Crum pitched yet another gem as she struck out 15 batters in a complete-game performance as the Cathedral High School Lady Green Wave defeated the Parklane Academy Lady Pioneers 8-1 last Thursday afternoon.

Fisher led Cathedral at the plate by going 3-for-4 with a double, one run batted in and her two runs scored. As a team, the Lady Green Wave had 11 total base hits. Crum helped her own cause by going 2-for-4 with a double and Kinslee Young went 2-for-4 with a double.

“We have had a good week offensively. I see several players who are starting to swing the bat much better than they were earlier in the year,” Lady Green Wave head coach Craig Beesley said. “Hopefully we can get hot at the plate the second half of the season.”

Leadoff hitter Madelyn Fielder went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored and was walked once. Liza Gregg was 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Molly Shirley was 1-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored. EC lewis was 1-for-2, was walked once, and scored two runs. Even though Hannah Hargon was 0-for-1, she was also walked twice and scored one run.

Crum was on a roll on the mound and frustrated Parklane’s line-up throughout her outing. She got all the run support she really needed in the early part of the game. Cathedral scored two runs each in the top of the first and second innings for a 4-0 Lady Green Wave lead.

Yet they continued to add to their lead with two runs in the top of the fourth inning and one run each in the top of the fifth and seventh innings.

The Lady Pioneers avoided being shut out by scoring their only run off Crum in the bottom of the seventh inning. Crum gave up one earned run on two hits with three walks. The defense behind her did not commit a single error.

“Our pitching and defense have been good all year. We need to focus on our last four district games. We must play our best in these games to give ourselves a chance to play for the district championship,” Beesley said.

Cathedral (14-2) plays host to MAIS District 4-5A and cross-town rival Adams County Christian School on Tuesday, Sept. 3 with the junior varsity game at 5 p.m. and the varsity game at 6:15 p.m.
