FRANKLIN COUNTY — The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office investigated the drowning of a Hispanic teen Sunday afternoon in the Homochitto River.
The 19-year-old drowning victim has been identified as Jose Luis Galindo, a native of Honduras who lived in Hammond, Louisiana.
Sheriff Tom Tindle said there had been a group of people there swimming around mid-afternoon Sunday when Galindo’s cousin, Kenya Gomez called 911 to report the drowning around 4:30 p.m. Galindo’s mother was also there.
“It appears to have been an accidental drowning. No foul play is suspected,” Tindle said.
After a multi-agency search and recovery effort, the teen’s body had been retrieved from the river just before 7 p.m., according to Adams County Emergency Management Director Robert Bradford, who was there assisting with a search and recovery effort with Adams County Search and Rescue.
