FERRIDAY – Funeral services for Kizzie D. Hood, 93, of Ferriday, who died on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024, in Ferriday, will be held on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Leroy White officiating.

Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 16, 2024, from 3:30 until 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home and will continue on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Kizzie was born on Feb. 23, 1931, in Lake St. John, LA, the daughter of Irene Risper McKinney and Daniel McKinney. She graduated from Sevier Rosenwald High School in Ferriday and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Tarkio College. She was a retired Registered Nurse. Kizzie was a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church where she served as an usher (health unit) and a deaconess. She was also a member of the Matrons Civic Club. In her spare time, she enjoyed fishing, reading, and doing puzzles.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Overton Hood; brothers, Sylvester Mckinney, Eldrige Mckinney, Daniel Mckinney, Rutherford Mckinney, and Zelious Mckinney; and sisters, Lucille Mckinney Butcher, Gracie Mckinney McAllister, Catherine McKinney, Rosie McKinney, Gloria Lee McKinney, Carrie Mae Mckinney, and Veridell Mckinney-Day.

Kizzie leaves to cherish her loving memory: daughters, Anita Hood and Pamela Hood; grandchildren, Shante’ D. Hood and Megan I. Hood; seven great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
