Sept. 8, 1945 – July 12, 2024

Veronica S. Doughty was born in Alexandria, LA on Sept. 8, 1945, the daughter of Lillian Landry Sartor and Thomas Ray Sartor of Vidalia, LA.

Mrs. Doughty passed away very peacefully on July 12, 2024, with her sister by her side. A private family service, under the direction of Laird Funeral Home, will be held at a later date.

Veronica, affectionately known as Ronnie, attended school in Vidalia, LA, but due to a family move, she graduated from Delhi High School in Delhi, LA, where she was in the Pep Squad, played basketball for the Bears, and earned the honor of salutatorian of her graduating class. Through the years Veronica maintained a close relationship with her Class of 1963.

She attended Northeast Louisiana State College (now the University of Louisiana at Monroe) as an English major; however, her parents claimed she majored in “playing bridge at the Student Union”! Veronica was on the Dean’s list and participated in the ROTC program.

Veronica worked as a legal secretary for the Law Firm of Walter Brown, where she played a key role in managing the legal aspects of the Natchez Trace extension into Natchez and in obtaining the rights-of-way for the four-laning of Highway 61 South into Natchez. She retired in 2012.

Mrs. Doughty was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother-in-law, F. Kenneth McCalip.

Survivors include her son, Tod Andrew Doughty, and his wife, Landra Michelle Doughty of Cypress, TX; grandchildren, Jordan Andrew Doughty and Alexandra Quinn Doughty of Bullard, TX, Cole Hayden Doughty, Luke Brayden Doughty and Ava Grace Doughty of Cypress, TX; one sister, Gwen S. McCalip of Natchez; a nephew, Conn Kenneth McCalip and his wife, Shannan Rushing McCalip of Natchez, and their family Meagan Elizabeth McLeod and husband, James Mims McLeod, their sons, James Sartor McLeod and George Mims McLeod all of Londonderry, NH; Catherine Pate Brown and husband, Logan Ware Brown and children, Weston Scott Brown and Nora Pate Brown all of Natchez; nephew, Chase McNeil McCalip and wife, Amy Daste McCalip and children, Ella Marie McCalip, Macy Claire McCalip, and Daniel Chase McCalip all of Baton Rouge, LA.
