Dec. 5, 1948 – July 1, 2024

NATCHEZ – Dixie Marilene McIntyre, age 75, of Natchez, passed away on July 1, 2024, at Merit Health Natchez.

She was born Dec. 5, 1948, to James “Arkie” McIntyre and Georgia Perkins McIntyre. She retired from the Natchez Post Office where she served as a mail carrier, a clerk, and as an American Postal Workers Union representative. For years she went to work at 3 a.m. to provide for her two sons and still somehow managed to sleep in the afternoon despite all of the noise two young boys bring into the house after school.

She was preceded in death by her parents, J. J. McIntyre and Georgia McIntyre; her sister, June Darsey Woolfolk, and her niece, Colleen McIntyre.

Survivors include her two sons, Jason Rodriguez of Den Haag, The Netherlands, and Jarett Rodriguez and wife, Sherry of Austin, TX; her grandson, Sebastian Rodriguez of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and her granddaughter, Morgan Rodriguez of Austin, TX. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she spoke of them with great love and pride.

She is also survived by her two beloved brothers, Chip McIntyre of Natchez and Mike McIntyre of Wesson, along with their wives, Marion McIntyre and Diane McIntyre, whom she very much considered sisters. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom she adored, with a special place in her heart for her niece, Lisa.

Throughout her life, she courageously battled primary progressive multiple sclerosis with the support of Dr. Leslie England; her wonderful long-term caregivers, Evalina Thomas with Heart To Heart and Deaconess Home Care’s Mallary Mize ST, and Amy Popichak RN.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to the Natchez Humane Society or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

A celebration of her life will be held for friends and family at Laird Funeral Home on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 3 p.m., with visitation beginning at 2 p.m. In line with her wishes, her ashes will be spread in Hawaii at a later date.

She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
