At approximately 2:20 a.m. this morning, two inmates escaped from the Claiborne County Detention Center.
One is Dezarrious Johnson, 18, who was being held for Jefferson County but is from the Natchez area. The other is Tyrekennel Collins, 24, who was being held for Copiah County.
Collins had been arrested for the murder of his cousin, 46-year-old James Collins, on Oct. 17, 2023.
Dezarrious Johnson, 18, is also charged with murder according to a Jefferson County dispatcher. No details on the murder were immediately available as supervisors could not be reached because of the July 4 holiday weekend.
Both are considered to be dangerous, authorities said while urging all citizens to take necessary precautions.
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Tyrekennel Collins or Dezarrious Johnson is asked to contact the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Department immediately.
“The safety of the public is our highest priority, and we appreciate the community’s cooperation in this matter,” the sheriff’s office states.
