FERRIDAY – Mary Emogene Miller “Jean”, 101, of Pittsfield Plantation, Ferriday, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. Services will be Friday, June 14, 2024, at Young’s Funeral Home-Ferriday. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Natchez City Cemetery.

Mrs. Miller was born Dec. 8, 1922, in Sheridan, AR to the late Martin Tomlin and Lucy Hammack Tomlin. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ferriday.

Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her husband, William Ulrich “B.U.” Miller, Sr.; infant son, William Ulrich Miller, Jr.; son, James Franklin Miller; two brothers, Prentis Tomlin and Harry Tomlin, and sister, Maxine Tomlin Jones.

She is survived by her son, Randall Miller of Ferriday, LA.; daughter, Marilyn Miller Campbell and her husband, Bill of Fort Morgan, AL.; two grandsons, Dustin Miller of New Orleans, LA., and
Wil Miller and wife, Kylie Miller of Ferriday, LA.; two granddaughters, Niki McEntyre of Vidalia, LA., and Mendy Miller of Baton Rouge, LA.; great-granddaughter, Allie Miller; three great-grandsons; daughter-in-law, Ann Bender Miller and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Miller graduated from Louisiana Tech University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in music. Soon after graduation, she worked for American Airlines in Dallas, TX for two years. She went on to teach music in her hometown public school at Emerson, AR, before moving to Tensas Parish in 1948, where she taught music in St. Joseph and Waterproof.

Mrs. Miller and her husband, Billy Miller worked diligently with Huntington School when it was founded in 1969 and remained active supporters of the school.

Pallbearers will be Andy Guida, Andy Anders, Mack Brown, David Miller, Mark Miller, Mike Miller, Dee Miller and Joey Roberson. Honorary pallbearers are Lyle Miller, Tommy Nelson, Allen Brown, Lucky Nowlin, Freddie Miller, and Burton Wade, Jr.
