The late Butch Brown to be honored at Tuesday’s meeting of Mayor and Board of Aldermen

NATCHEZ — Mississippi Senator Albert Butler, who represents the state’s 37th District, will attend the Natchez Mayor and Board of Aldermen meeting on Tuesday to present a resolution to Larry Brown Jr. in memory of his father, the late Mayor Larry “Butch” Brown Sr.
Brown served as mayor of Natchez for a total of three terms. He also served as executive director of the Mississippi Department of Transportation for 10 years.
Brown died on April 25, 2023, at the age of 79.
The Board of Aldermen are also expected to request permission from the Mississippi Department of Transportation to name the U.S. 61 Flyover in honor of Brown.
Mayor Pro Tem Sarah Carter Smith will lead Tuesday meeting because Mayor Dan Gibson will be away.
Also Monday, the Board of Aldermen is expected to approve a request from Shakira Miller to hire staff and open the community swimming pool. The city and county own the pool jointly. The county approved the hiring of staff and opening of the pool at its meeting on May 6.

The introduction to the Board of Kevin Miers as the new director of the Downtown Natchez Alliance.
The approval of a month-to-month extension of the fire services agreement between the City of Natchez and Adams County.
The approval of the low quote for storm damage repairs at the corner of George F. West and Martin Luther King streets.
The meeting begins at 11 a.m. at the Council Chambers at 115 S. Pearl St., across from City Hall.
