VIDALIA, La. — A Vidalia man was arrested Monday afternoon when he allegedly shot a dog during an argument with a family member, authorities said.
Charles Marvin Morehead, 53, of Vidalia, was booked into the Concordia Parish Jail on Monday with charges of aggravated assault with a firearm, aggravated cruelty to animals and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office Public Information Director Brandy Spears said according to reports, Morehead was in an argument with a family member at his residence and threatened to shoot the dog if the family member didn’t leave the house.
“The family member was gathering their things inside when they heard a gunshot fired,” and later found the dog had been shot, she said.
The dog was still alive when the deputy arrived at the scene at approximately 1:30 p.m. Monday. However, the condition of the dog as of Tuesday afternoon is unknown, Spears said.
