NATCHEZ — Alderman candidate Jamar White, who challenged incumbent Ben Davis for the Ward 5 alderman position in Tuesday’s municipal primary election, has conceded the race to Davis.
“I went up to the courthouse this morning and checked the affidavit votes. We didn’t have any affidavits in Ward 5. Alderman Davis beat me by 12 votes,” White said.
“You have those here who want to see discord and want challenges in this election. The truth is, Alderman Davis just ran a better race than I did and won it fair and square,” he said. “I am asking the citizens of Natchez, let’s get behind those who won and get behind the mayor. Each of the aldermen who won their election did so fairly and squarely. Each of them is trusted by the citizens. Let’s get behind them, and let’s move Natchez forward.”
Davis thanks White for his kind words.
“I surely appreciate him for that. All I wanted was a fair race. Everybody here has a right to run,” Davis said. “I thank all of the people who voted for me, and I’m going to continue to do my job and work together with everyone for the betterment of the City of Natchez.”
