NATCHEZ — The City of Natchez will soon spend federal dollars on five areas at risk of erosion.
The Natchez Board of Aldermen recently awarded a $113,117 bid contract to Camo Construction Co., of Vidalia to repair one erosion site each on North Street, North Bluebird Drive and Martin Luther King Jr. Street, and two erosion sites on Oak Hill Drive. The erosion sites were first surveyed last year.
City Engineer David Gardner said Tuesday the projects qualified for the National Resources Conservation Service’s Emergency Watershed Protection Program. Gardner said NRCS will fund 85 percent of repair costs. The city will fund the remaining 15 percent.
Contracts for the repairs were delivered to Gardner’s office yesterday, but they require the signatures of Mayor Jake Middleton and City Attorney Everett Sanders.
