NATCHEZ – Despite a mid-game rally by Adams County Christian School in the second half of a double-header, the Cathedral Green Wave swept cross-county rival Rebels on Wednesday.

The Green Wave won the MAIS District 4-5A matchups 7-3 and 8-5, adding wins two and three against ACCS this week. ACCS hosted the Green Wave on Monday and fell 12-2.

Wednesday’s first game started with quick scores by Cathedral, as Josh Ingram hit into a fielder’s choice, ACCS committed an error and Ethan Keith singled for two runs.

Leadoff hitter Tristan Fondren led Cathedral at the plate, with two hits in three at bats and two RBIs. ACCS gave up eight walks and eight stolen bases in the first game.

Landon French earned the win for Cathedral, giving up only two hits and three runs over seven innings. He struck out four batters and walked four.

In the second game, Cathedral jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first as Josh Ingram tripled, scoring three runs, and Keith singled, scoring one run.

ACCS flipped the game on its head in the top of the second inning, scoring five runs on three hits to take a 5-4 lead. Caden Alpin hit a double to drive in two runs during the rally.

An ACCS error gave Cathedral the chance to tie the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the second.

Cathedral scored three runs in the bottom of the third, thanks to a double by Keith and a walk by Houston Edwards.

Eli Wilson earned the win for Cathedral with two hits; no runs; four strikeouts and one walk over five and a third innings. SK Cothren took the loss for ACCS, with no runs, no hits, six strikeouts and one walk in four innings of work. Keith was the Green Wave starting pitcher and gave up three hits and five runs over one and a third innings. Colton Rabb began the game for ACCS and surrendered five hits and eight runs over two innings, with three strikeouts and five walks.

Fondren and Keith each collected two hits for Cathedral, with Ingram and Keith driving in three runs each.

Tyson Young and Aplin each collected two runs and two RBIs for ACCS.

In Monday’s game, Cathedral head coach Andrew Beesley said he was pleased with the team’s play, despite the weather. “I thought we played a pretty solid game. We dealt with the weather and the wind up to 30 miles per hour,” Beesley said. “It was raining off and on. I thought we took care of that well and took care of the baseball.”

Led by Josh Ingram and Drake Cox, the Green Wave scored three runs in the top of the first inning and one run in the top of the second to take a 4-0 lead. The Rebels scored one run each off winning pitcher Owen Jordan in the bottom of the second and third innings to make it a 4-2 game.

However, Cathedral squashed ACCS’s attempted comeback with one run in the top of the fourth inning, five runs in the top of the fifth that put the game away, and one run each in the top of the sixth and seventh innings.

“We jumped on them at the plate and got some good at-bats at the plate. We jumped on them early and never looked back,” Beesley said.

Jordan went all seven innings and held the Rebels to just two runs, only one of them earned, on five hits with two strikeouts and three walks.

“We talked to him before the game about the wind blowing and discussed with him throwing a lot of strikes and putting the ball in play,” Beesley said. “He didn’t have as many strikeouts, but we talked about his approach and letting his defense work behind him. I thought he did a good job of that.”

Ingram led the Green Wave’s nine-hit tack by going 4-for-4 with a double while Cox had a double.

As for Ingram’s performance at the plate, Beesley said, “He had a really good game for us. He said before the game that he was seeing the ball well in practice. He had some big hits for us.”

Young was the one bright spot for ACCS at the plate as he went 2-for-4. All five of the Rebels’ base hits went for singles.

Cathedral (14-3, 5-1) faces Centreville Academy on Tuesday. ACCS (2-13, 1-5) hosts Copiah Academy on April 2.
