RAYVILLE, La. — Vidalia High School’s junior varsity and varsity baseball teams were scheduled to travel to Rayville, La. to take on Rayville High School in what was supposed to have been the LHSAA District 2-2A opener for both teams.
Unfortunately, those games have been postponed until a date to be determined later in the season — and not because of the rough weather that hit the region last Monday afternoon and night.
“There was a tragedy in their town,” Vikings head coach Seth Thompson said Wednesday morning. “Some of the students (at Rayville High School) were involved in a wreck. Their coach (Lynn Middleton) told me it was last Sunday night.”
Which means that Vidalia will not play its district opener until next Tuesday, April 2 when the Vikings, currently 6-7 overall after a 13-10 home win over Delta Charter School last Friday afternoon and a 10-4 win at Monterey High School last Saturday afternoon, play host to Oak Grove High School in a varsity-only game at 5 p.m. at the Concordia Recreation District 3 Complex.
