FERRIDAY, La. — The Town of Ferriday and Village Clayton elected new mayors and aldermen during the Louisiana presidential and municipal primary election. However, the Ferriday Mayor’s race will have to be decided with a run-off election on April 27.

Alvin Garrison won Ferriday’s vote in the race for Mayor. He and two other challengers, Joey Bazile II and Ferriday Tax-Clerk DeBorah Elaine-Jones beat the incumbent Mayor of Ferriday Rydell Turner in the race.

Garrison received 49 percent of the votes, or 467 votes. He and Bazile, who came second with 18 percent of the votes or 169 votes, will go to a runoff election. Eliane-Jones came third with 16 percent of the votes or 151 votes.

With heavy opposition on the ballot, Turner came fourth with 9 percent or 82 votes. Approximately 47.7 percent or 961 of the total registered voters in Ferriday voted.

Clayton elected Robert James Lee as mayor with 84 percent or 99 of the total votes. His opponent Cortlandt Flournoy received 16 percent or 19 of the total votes. Thirty percent or 118 of the registered voters of Clayton voted in this election.

In Ferriday Alderman races, Dra’Carl Walker beat incumbent Brandi Bacon for the District A seat with 58 percent or 95 of the total votes. Bacon received 42 percent or 68 of the total votes.

In District B, Devin Bryan and Devonte M. Shiele will be heading to a runoff election after they both beat the incumbent Elija “Steppers” Banks. Bryan received the most votes with 40 percent or 92 of the total votes. Schiele came second with 32 percent or 74 of the total votes. “Juan” King came third with 14 percent or 32 votes and Banks came last with 13 percent or 30 of the total votes.

In District D, Andre Keys with 48 percent or 105 of the total votes and Ashley M. Skipper with 32 percent or 71 of the total votes will head to a runoff election.

In District E, Alderwoman Gloria Lloyd wins re-election outright with 58 percent or 67 of the total votes. Essie Carter Green came second with 30 percent or 35 of the total votes and David Turner came third with 11 percent or 13 of the total votes.
