The tragic events of Monday evening are a painful reminder that many of the sweetest things in life are temporary.
Jason Tyson, late owner of The Donut Shop in Natchez is gone too soon.
He was a dependable, funny, hardworking family-man who often put other’s needs before his own.
He was a beloved son, husband, and father of four children and a Paps to two young grandchildren who will now have to grow up without him there to remind them just how much he loved them.
At 43, Jason Tyson still had much to offer the world.
Though he had no intentions of it at first, Jason took over the family Donut Shop in Natchez a decade ago and kept things the same as many of us know and love, including the family recipes.
We’re thankful that his sweet mother Mary Tyson convinced him to do it.
Looking back to that interview in 2014, Jason told us how he would roll up his sleeves at 2 a.m. or 3 a.m. and get to work rolling out raw dough, cutting it up with a circular pastry cutter, and getting them ready before 6 a.m. opening time.
Just two years ago he opened up a second Donut Shop in Gulfport. Within a few short months of being open, the shop made it to the top 5 of WXXV News 25’s Viewer’s Choice Awards. This is no small feat considering the winner, Tato-Nut Donut Shop, has had its foothold in Ocean Springs since 1960. The Donut Shop has won Natchez many times over and perhaps, given more time, could win the Gulf Coast too.
We believe there is not a soul who knew Jason Tyson who doesn’t want more time with him around. He had a heart and passion for his family, their business and his community. Many recalled his genuine concern for the well-being of education, law enforcement and other small business owners. The response of this community to his passing is a testament to his character.
May God give those closest to him some comfort as they navigate this difficult time.
There’s a hole left in the heart of many in the Miss-Lou.
