JENA, La. — Vidalia High School’s varsity baseball team split its two games last Saturday at the Jena High School Baseball Tournament as the Vikings defeated the LaSalle High School Tigers 11-2 last Saturday morning before falling to the host Jena Giants 18-0 in five innings in an afternoon match-up.
No other information, including score by innings was available for Vidalia’s win over LaSalle, which was the Vikings’ third win in their last four games.
However, LHSAA Class 2A Vidalia ran into a much tougher opponent in Class 3A Jena a few hours later. The Giants were the ‘home’ team and took it to the Vikings from the start with nine runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Jena then exploded for six runs in the bottom of the third inning and three more runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Giants finished with 10 total base hits while their defense committed just one error.
Vidalia was held to just three base hits and committed three errors. Efforts to reach Vikings head coach Seth Thompson for comments on the two games were unsuccessful.
Vidalia (4-6) traveled to Winnsboro, La. to take on Family Community Christian School last Tuesday with the junior varsity game at 4 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6 p.m.
