NATCHEZ — Freezing temperatures tonight into early Tuesday morning pose a threat to unprotected vegetation in the Miss-Lou, the National Weather Service warns.
“The freeze is expected for a majority of the area late tonight into early Tuesday morning, with the highest probability of a damaging freeze likely over central/eastern portions of the area. The growing season has begun, and freeze will cause significant damage to unprotected sensitive vegetation,” according to the National Weather Service, Jackson office.
There is a risk also to unprotected outdoor plumbing.
Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 28 degrees are expected for portions of central, northeast and southwest Mississippi from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesday.
“Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold,” NWS states. “To prevent water pipes from freezing, wrap or drain or allow them to drip slowly.”
