NATCHEZ — As expected, Donald Trump earned the support of Adams County Republican voters in Tuesday’s presidential primary, and Joe Biden got the nod from Adams County Democratic voters.

Only 2,997 voters went to the polls of the county’s 36,596 registered voters. Democrats accounted for 1,731 votes to Republicans 1,266. Voter turnout was only  8.19 percent.

Trump earned 1,177 of Adams County Republican votes. Though they had each withdrawn from the presidential primary prior to Tuesday’s vote, Ron DeSantis, Nikki R. Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy remained on the ballot. DeSantis received 10 Adams County GOP votes to Haley’s 58 and Ramaswamy’s 1 vote.

In the vote for U.S. Senate, Adams County Republican voters chose incumbent U.S. Sen. Roger F. Wicker by 71.42 percent or 892 votes. Challenger Dan Eubanks earned 15.45 percent or 193 Adams County Republican votes and Ghannon Burton earned 13.05 percent or 163 votes.

Adams County Republican voters chose Ron Eller to run against Second District Congressman, incumbent U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson, a Democrat, by 46.34 percent or 507 votes. Andrew Scott Smith earned 38.3 percent or 419 of Adams County GOP votes to Taylor Turcotte’s 14.63 percent or 160 votes.

Adams County Democrats cast 1,666 votes for President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and incumbent Second District Congressman Bennie G. Thompson received 1,675 votes. Neither faced a challenger on the Adams County ballot.
