NATCHEZ — A man convicted on 40 counts of child pornography was sentenced Monday to 30 years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

Alfred Roy Smith, 45, 7 Longmire Road, will spend the next 10 years in prison for possession of child pornography, according to a press release from the state Attorney General’s office.

An investigation by the Attorney General’s Cyber Crime Unit/Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force reportedly discovered thousands of images and videos on Smith’s personal computer.

Smith was indicted by an Adams County grand jury in August for charges relating to his July 2009 arrest.

He pleaded guilty before Judge Lillie Blackmon Sanders in Adams County Circuit Court Monday to possession of child pornography. Sanders suspended 20 years of her sentence.  Smith was also given five years post-release supervision.

Smith was ordered to pay $1,000 to the Crime Victim Compensation Fund and register as a sex offender upon release.
