COLUMBIA, La. — For three quarters last Friday, both Vidalia High School and Caldwell Parish High School had a hard time scoring against each other in the Bi-District Round of the 2024 LHSAA Division III (Non-Select) Playoffs.
When the third quarter was over, No. 18 seed Vidalia led No. 15 seed Caldwell Parish in the low-scoring game 18-17. Finally, the Vikings’ offense came to life as they put up 22 points in the fourth quarter while the Spartans to 10 points for a 40-27 upset win.
Vidalia jumped out to a 10-2 lead over Caldwell Parish at the end of the first quarter, but the Spartans’ defense clamped down on the Vikings over the next two quarters. Caldwell Parish outscored Vidalia 5-3 in the second quarter and 10-5 in the third quarter to make it a one-point game.
However, all the momentum the home-team Spartans had in the middle of the game quickly came to an end when the Vikings took over on both ends of the court in the fourth quarter.
Efforts to reach head coach Damus Smith for comments on the game were unsuccessful.
Vidalia (18-14) take on a very familiar opponent on the road in the regional round at 7 p.m. Tuesday — No. 2 seed and District 2-2A rival Rayville High School.
