Our community is filled with citizens who do good works. These are just a few among us.

Seeds of Change Resource Foundation, which sponsored a special presentation on Saturday at the Natchez City Auditorium honoring Black women in our history who changed the world for the better, did a great job.

In addition to nationally-known heroes like Harriet Tubman and Rosa Parks, the presentation education us about many notable women who are either from Natchez or have Natchez ties, like Police Chief Caroline Green, Judge Mary Lee Toles, Judge Lily Blackmon Sanders, Sadie V. Thompson, Susie Ethel B. West, Rhetaugh Grace Dumas and many others.

Great job, too, to Joseph Smith with BlackNatchez.org, which organized Saturday’s Black History Parade and celebration. It was apparent from the bystanders at the parade that all had a good time.

Registration is under way for the inaugural Natchez Youth Sports baseball league and season.

The league replaces Dixie Youth Baseball and TM Jennings leagues, which are now defunct.

Natchez Youth Sports is a division of the Natchez Parks and Recreation Department.

Nearly 100 players have signed up, but the league can accommodate as many as 400 from ages 3 to 12.

Ryan Porter, the city’s parks and rec director, said 20 coaches have committed and more than a dozen sponsors want to take part.

Online registration deadline is March 1 and an in person registration event is set for Saturday, March 2, at Sports Center in Natchez.
