NATCHEZ — Traffic on U.S. 61 north is being diverted temporarily because of a fire in an abandoned house.

Officials are asking that all traffic heading north of Natchez on U.S. 61 detour to Morgantown Road to Red Loop Road back to U.S. 61 north.

Adams County Fire Coordinator Darryl Smith said no one was in the home at the time it caught fire. The home is located across the highway from Cube Smart storage. City and county fire fighters are on scene, as are fire fighters from Concordia Parish.

The house is located near the highway, and officials are concerned flames could reach the roadway.
