NATCHEZ — Natchez firefighters responded to a Monday afternoon barn fire at 32 Rose Hill Drive in Adams County, which some barn animals did not make it out of, authorities said.
The call came to Natchez Fire Department at approximately 12:30 p.m. while the homeowner was trying to get the animals out and county volunteer firefighters were en route to the scene. The blaze was under control by 1 p.m. Horses were rescued but 8 goats were lost in the fire, Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said.
No other injury or loss was reported. It is unclear at this time how the fire started.
“They just cleared the scene maybe five minutes ago,” Natchez Fire Chief Robert Arrington said, adding he would be briefed shortly on what may have happened.
