FAYETTE — Jefferson County had a fantastic 2023 season and so did Jermall Williams. The junior linebacker made over 100 tackles and forced several turnovers to be our 2023 All-Metro Defensive Player of the Year.
Tiger head coach Roderick Holmes said before the season that Williams was a key player for the team and looked forward to having him back on the field. Williams had also made a name for himself as a sophomore making 105 tackles, 93 solo tackles and two forced fumbles in 2022.
Williams took things to the next level in 2023. He had 125 tackles this season, 105 of them solo, which is fourth best in MHSAA 3A and ranked 29th in Mississippi. The national average for total tackles is 20 according to Max Preps.
He had 10 tackles for a loss, nine hurries and three sacks. Williams recovered two fumbles, one for a touchdown against Seminary, and forced three fumbles this season. As a result, Williams was named to the Region 7-3A Super 22 team.
Williams is a junior and has gotten better each year. Fans in Fayette and the Miss-Lou should be excited for his senior season as it is likely he will continue to be a leader on defense.
