NATCHEZ — A woman who had been shot and had her car stolen on Monday afternoon made it out of the hospital and is in recovery at home, Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said Thursday afternoon.
The victim had been transported to a Jackson hospital from Merit Health Natchez in critical but stable condition to undergo surgery on Tuesday following the incident that happened around 2:30 Monday at the Stanton Baptist Church on U.S. 61.
She is a witness to three juveniles thought to be the same three that escaped overnight Sunday from the Henley-Young-Patton Youth Detention Center in Hinds County, being in the Natchez area and driving away from the scene in her 2015 Ford Fusion. One of the juveniles who escaped is 17-year-old Tayshon Holmes from Natchez, who at age 15 was arrested and charged with the murder of 19-year-old Bill Calvin Jr. The other two are Robert Earl Smith,16, and Jashon Jones, 15. The same teens escaped the facility in July 2023.
Patten said the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, Natchez Police Department and U.S. Marshals Service have been out in force searching for the escapees since the carjacking on Monday.
A reward of up to $2,500 for tips that lead to the arrest of any or all of these individuals has been offered through Crime Stoppers. Tips must be submitted by calling 1-888-442-5001 to be eligible for cash rewards.
