NATCHEZ — A siren test that was set to take place at noon today (Wednesday, Jan. 10) served its purpose.

The test found that none of the sirens were working, emergency management officials said.

Adams County EMA Liaison Officer Neifa Hardy said a retest would be done Thursday at noon to ensure that the sirens are working properly again.

“The outside weather system and sirens were not operational today,” Hardy stated in a public service announcement. “We will test the system tomorrow, Thursday, January 11, 2024, at 12:00 (noon). If you do not hear the siren, please let us know. Thank you for your patience in this matter.”

Hardy said today’s test found that the main panel to turn the sirens on was not connecting with the sirens.

“The panel was fixed today,” she said, noting that the retest on Thursday will note whether it is truly working again.

“Because we are in severe weather season and beginning to prepare for hurricane season starting June 1, we are happy we are able to address issues such as these in the early stages instead of an active emergency.”

Adams County EMA asks that if you are near a siren when they are scheduled to sound at noon on Thursday, contact their office to let them know if it is working or not working.
