LIBERTY — Tyson Young led Adams County Christian School’s varsity boys’ basketball team with 19 points and Charles Brooks added 16 points as the visiting Rebels from Natchez defeated the host Amite School Center Rebels 65-31 last Thursday night.

ACCS dominated the first quarter on both ends of the court as the Rebels shut out Amite School Center en route to a 16-0 lead at the end of the quarter. The visiting Rebels then outscored the host Rebels 20-12 in the second quarter to take a 36-12 lead into halftime.

“Offensively, we had three guys step up and scored in double digits. Defensively, we held them scoreless in the first quarter, so I was proud of that,” ACCS head coach Matthew Freeman said. “To hold a good club like Amite School Center to zero points in the first quarter speaks highly of our defense.”

The host Rebels managed to outscore the visiting Rebels 17-12 in the third quarter, but still trailed 48-29 at the end of the quarter. The fourth quarter was similar to the first quarter as ACCS put up 17 points while Amite School Center managed just two points.

JT Bass led the host ASC Rebels with a game-high-tying 19 points.

ACCS improved to 10-1 overall and returned to MAIS District 4-5A action on Friday when they host cross-town and district rival Cathedral High School at 7:30 p.m.

Amite School Center girls 43, ACCS 12

LIBERTY — Addison Walsh led Amite School Center with a game-high 23 points as the host Lady Rebels cruised to a 43-12 win over the Adams County Christian School Lady Rebels last Thursday night.

D’Kiyah Davis led ACCS with five points and Makenzie Campbell added three points. The visiting Lady Rebels were only down 9-4 to the host Lady Rebels before Amite School Center outscored them 10-2 in the second quarter for a 19-6 halftime lead and 19-3 in the third quarter for a commanding 38-9 advantage.

“We’ve got to play better offensively,” Freeman said. “Most of the time, poor offense leads to easy lay-ups for the other team. We’ve got to be more effective on offense.”

ACCS fell to 4-7 overall. The Lady Rebels hosts Cathedral High School in a District 4-5A match-up at 6 p.m. Friday.
