JEFFERSON COUNTY — The state fire marshal is still investigating the cause of a fire at a deer camp in Jefferson County which claimed the life of one Monroe, Louisiana teen and injured five more.
Sheriff James Bailey said authorities responded to the fire at approximately 4 a.m. on Friday on Noble Swamp Road.
The structure, which appeared to be a mobile home, was destroyed, he said.
“The state fire marshal came down and right now it’s an ongoing investigation. The whole structure is gone,” Bailey said.
Condolences circulated on social media for the family of 15-year-old Tarver Braddock, a junior at Neville High School in Monroe who did not survive the fire.
Bailey said all of the survivors had “burns and bad lacerations from the tin and glass” on the structure. One was treated at a Jefferson County hospital and four others went to Merit Health Natchez. One of those four was later transferred to a hospital in Jackson.
