NATCHEZ — A man on the run faces additional felony charges from Mississippi Highway Patrol after reportedly fleeing state troopers and ramming into one of their units before finally crashing at Kenny Graves Appartments in Adams County.

MHP officer Craig James said Richard Norman Jr., 51, had outstanding warrants from the Mississippi Department of Corrections and attempted to evade an MHP safety checkpoint that led MHP officers to chase him through Adams County Saturday evening.

James said Norman was driving a Cadillac DTS that tried to drive around the checkpoint near Powlett Road. He led officers on a pursuit that continued even after the vehicle left the roadway several times and rammed into a MHP unit, James said.

Norman was eventually taken into custody when his vehicle wrecked and became “stuck” at the Kenny Graves Apartments.

He was taken to Merit Health Natchez hospital and treated.

Norman is currently in custody at the Adams County Jail with a warrant for possession of a weapon by a convicted felon from MDOC, James said.

Norman accumulated additional charges from MHP during the chase, including driving under intoxication, second offense; felony fleeing; possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; drug charges and various traffic violations, James said.

Adams County Sheriff’s Office charged him with reckless driving.
