Rebecca Jewel Purvis Daye (Becky) was born on June 20, 1944, in Philadelphia, MS to Thomas Leo Purvis and Margaret Elizabeth Williams and passed away on Dec. 12, 2023, at Trinity Medical Center ER after a brief illness.

Becky’s family moved to Ferriday, LA in the late 1940s where she graduated from Ferriday High School in 1962. While at FHS Becky was a majorette, Vice President of the student council, Key Club sweetheart, and an all-district and all-state forward on the FHS girls’ basketball team which won the Class A State title.

After graduation, Becky attended LSU in Baton Rouge, LA, where she graduated with a degree in elementary education in January 1966. While at LSU Becky was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority.

On July 30, 1966, Becky was married to her high school sweetheart Jerry B. Daye at Sevier Memorial Methodist Church in Ferriday, LA, from the marriage were born two sons, David Bradley Daye (Brad) and Jonathan Lamar Daye (Jon).

Becky taught School in the East Baton Rouge Parish and Concordia Parish School Systems. In 1989, Becky went to work for the LaSalle Community Action Association as a workforce specialist where she remained employed until her retirement in Sept. 2016.

Becky was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Billy Daye and wife, Faye of Picayune, MS; brother-in-law, Donnie Daye and wife, Penny of Baton Rouge, LA; and special brother-in-law, Joe Daye of Dallas, TX.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry of 57 years; son, Brad Daye and wife, Lisa of Natchez, MS; son, Jon Daye of Baton Rouge, LA; and brother, Dr. Thomas Leo Purvis, Jr. and wife, Sue of Natchez, MS.

The family requests that any memorials be made to Sevier Memorial Methodist Church at PO Box 440, Ferriday, LA 71334, or The Concordia Parish Library at North Third Street, Ferriday, LA 71334.
