NATCHEZ — Adams County has been without a county administrator since January, but that will soon change.

At their Monday board meeting, supervisors agreed to start interviewing applicants for the position within the next two weeks.

Supervisors had to delay several financial questions during Monday’s meeting because, as Supervisor Ricky Gray pointed out, there was no county administrator there.

The county administrator he referred to was Brandi Lewis, who has been working in that role in addition to her duties as Chancery Clerk since former county administrator Angie King was voted out of that position during the first meeting of the year by Supervisors Wes Middleton, Kevin Wilson and Angela Hutchins. Supervisors Gray and Warren Gaines defended King’s position.

“I’ve never in my life seen a job go on this long (without being filled) that is the most important job in the county. To keep up with the money,” Gray said during Monday’s meeting. “And we haven’t hired anybody yet.”

Gaines, who is the president of the board, said Tuesday that each supervisor is in the process of reviewing the applications of 25 people who applied for the job. Each supervisor will choose their top picks from the same pool of applicants. If any of the applicants are in the top choices of at least three of the supervisors, they will be interviewed, he said.

Gaines said he is not sure if there is a limit to the number of people that can be interviewed.

As of Tuesday, a date for the interviews has not been chosen, he said.

During the board meeting, Supervisor Wes Middleton suggested doing them within the next two weeks.

“I think we need to go on and appoint a county administrator as soon as possible,” Gaines said.
