NATCHEZ —“The Natchez Community Thanksgiving Dinner was a great success!” said Karla Brown, who organized the event that took place Thursday at the Natchez Convention Center.
Brown and other volunteers for the nonprofit Natchez Community Thanksgiving Inc. prepared enough food and goodie bags for 400 people and had over 300 people show up, she said.
“We had over 300 people walk through the doors plus fed all the hospital employees and the (Sheriff”s Office) employees working (on Thanksgiving),” she said. “We cooked enough food for 400 people, and ended up with a little bit of dressing, a little bit of sweet potato casserole, and a few rolls remaining at the end.”
Natchez Community Thanksgiving is free and open to anyone who simply wants to celebrate the holiday with the community, whether they’re local or visiting from out of town.
“The food was delicious, and we had a lot more people coming in and eating there, which I really liked,” Brown said. “I had a great group of volunteers, and hopefully they’ll be willing to come back next year. All in all, it was a fun day with delicious food, terrific volunteers, and a great turnout! Happy Thanksgiving!”
