NATCHEZ — The Natchez Mayor and Board of Aldermen are looking for two people to serve on the city’s Natchez Convention and Promotion Commission, which is the group that governs Visit Natchez.
And, the NCPC will also be looking soon for a new executive director.
Natchez Mayor Dan Gibson announced at Monday night’s special meeting of the mayor and aldermen that Heath has accepted a job in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
“He has a very lucrative offer from a county in North Carolina that he just simply cannot refuse,” Gibson said. Heath’s last day in his job in Natchez will be Nov. 10.
The mayor said he would be meeting with Helen Moss Smith, the chairwoman of the Natchez Convention and Promotion Commission “to decide future steps. There are decisions that have to be made about the future direction of our very important commission.”
The commission also has two vacancies that need to be filled. Commissioner Katie McCabe recently resigned her seat on the commission. Last week, Commissioner Dana Wilson also resigned her seat after serving since 2016, Gibson said.
“We had already posted the position vacated by Katie McCabe by placing a notice in local media. We will now place a notice to fill Ms. Wilson’s position,” he said.
Anyone interested in serving should submit a letter of interest, a resume “and anything else you want to submit,” to the mayor’s office at City Hall, 124 S. Pearl St.
“Those who are interested have until noon on Friday, Nov. 3, to get their information submitted. That should give us enough time. We will follow the same process we have followed in the past,” Gibson said.
The Natchez Convention and Promotion Commission was established to market and promote Natchez and Adams County and to act as a resource for visitors and area businesses. It is the agency that oversees operations of Visit Natchez.
