Good news crests with mighty river

A long-awaited Mississippi River crest came without fanfare late last week, and though the water will be around and dangerous for a while, this is the beginning of the end.

And that’s good news.

But the river level wasn’t the only thing to watch last week. Let’s review a few other good things that occurred last week.

– Seniors from Adams County Christian, Cathedral and Trinity celebrated graduations together. Congratulations to the graduates, and to their parents as well, since we know this was, on every level, a family effort.

We hope this year’s senior class finds success in the future and that at least some of them bring that success back home to Natchez.

– Art & Soul organizers moved the annual event to a new location this year — the bluff — and crowds browsed Saturday. The new location seems like a good one, since so many local artists have found inspiration from the mighty Mississippi.

– Rachel Benoit, a freshman at Cathedral, has made community service her hobby. Rachel has volunteered with numerous projects for the last several years, and we know her heart for the community will bring untold rewards to her.

– The Natchez Festival of Music is ongoing with a variety of local events. If you haven’t attended yet, check out the schedule at www.natchezfestivalofmusic.com and make your plans.

Let’s pray that by this time next week river worries will be behind us, and the community can sit back and wait to see the summer sandbars again.
